WELCOME to 2011!
We have had a fantastic start to the year with our new topic CHALLENGES! Our classroom door has a new painting of Yertle the Turtle. We loved reading the story of Yertle the Turtle by Dr Seuss. What a great discussion we had about the challenges that the turtles in the story faced. Have you read that story- we recommend you do!

Volcano Explosion in Room 15
In Room 15 we have been learning about Volcanoes for Inquiry Learning. We all had a question and presented an oral report to the class explaining the answers we had researched for our group question.
We decided to make our own little volcano.
This is how we did it
1. We got a normal coke bottle and took the lid off
2. We put a white funnel into the bottle
3. We covered the bottle with tin foil to make it look like a mountain
4. We poured in a cup of baking soda and a cup of white vinegar
We watched the magic happen.........
Out came white bubbling lava- it slithered down the side of the bottle.

Potatoes all around
We have been planting potatoes. Today we decorated our potatoe plant with cardboard cutouts of christmas decorations. It looks awesome. This afternoon we are going to dig the potatoes out and put them into a bucket. They are entering a competition to see who has the most potatoes and the best decorated potatoe plant. Also we might enter the ugliest or smallest potatoe!

Sesame Street cupcakes
One of Mrs Craig's friends from McCleans College made some sesame street cupcakes. She gave them to our class and so we put them in our classroom to look at. We check that they are not going stinky. But so far they are not being stinky.

BFG Fever in Room 15
We are having so much fun in our classroom reading the chapter book called The BFG. That actually means 'The Big Friendly Giant'. We have made the biggest giant collage in our classroom and you should read our imaginary giant stories.
